I believe that this quote means that a promise is worth more than anything else. the reason why is because if you promise something to someone and if you break it you'll lose their trust not at an instant but it will gradually make its way to the point you friends or family wont even believe you. Lets say if you promise not to do things that are wrong like doping drugs your not just hurting yourself but your hurting others as well. Why? Because a lot of people who know you and care about you will always be worried if your OK or if something bad happened to you. or they will feel guilty for not trying to help you before it was to late. that's why a promise must never be broken because in the long run everyone will recognize you as a strong, kind and must of all trustworthy because they want people who aren't ignorant they want people who keep their promises. My mom always tells me if your going to say something say it to yourself and if sounds good to say then say it and if not don' t because you say something that is like a promise and you can't make a promise you'll feel guilty and wont have anyone to be there for because its too late to fix something you had done wrong.
